DOC Jones D-O-C- Worldwide

Doc Jones got me this mixtape all the way back in September. It finally feels good to be able to get to the review. Unfortunately, I was so disorganized when it came to the way that I kept track of all theChristian music that needed to be reviewed. But, I'm actually looking forward to this. The bottom line is that this mixtape has a whole bunch of features from some of the people that have gotten very good reviews on the site like J. Givens and I.C. Jones. Let's get to it.
Once this mixtape opens up, I know its going to be something special. Just the beat selection (I think it goes through 4 different beats) on the first track lets me know that it's going to be filled with Authentic Hip Hop, and as I listened through, I wasn't disappointed. The track selection is dope and gives homage to the East Coast flavor that made the genres of Rap andChristian Rap famous. The beat selection also does have some newer school tracks that keep it current. I wouldn't say that any of the beats are dated, they are just well selected, and the original tracks are dope as well.
This is some of the better beat selection that I have heard on a Christian Hip Hop mixtape in a long time. I also appreciated that Doc Jones didn't decide to use the cliche beats that are used on 99% of the mixtapes that are out there right now. This sounds more like an album as the tracks haven't been over used at all. I'm loving the tracks, but then again, that was expected as I am an East Coast head. Good job homie.
Vocally, I'm impressed. The opening track had so much lyricism in the first verse that if it didn't live up to the expectation, I would've been very disappointed. Here is the first 4 bars

I could go on and highlight lyrics in every song and they would all stand out. There is not a lot of filler lyrics that were put on the tracks, which I appreciated a lot. The features did such a good job of rocking just as hard as DOC Jones, the truth is that it took me all the way until track #7 to find something that I was really against (I didn't like the chorus). To get through 7 of 10 tracks and not find much wrong to complain about is something that I don't experience a lot in the genre.
The vocals also shine a little more than that. The personality of every rapper come through and translates well. I like that they all had their own style. To be honest, it was strange that so many were from the West Coast, as I didn't expect this type of lyricism and flow riding. It was just a very good look. The choruses were somewhat creative on most of the songs, but there were some that I didn't like at all (like angels and I never knew). But all together the choruses are strong when this mixtape is looked at as a whole.
The mix is the only place that I took a lot of issues. The features sometimes are mixed better than Doc Jones, but then again sometimes they are mixed worse. It was hit or miss. I just thought the mix could've been a little stronger, but other than that I fully endorse getting this free download from DOC Jones.
